The Bios Urn allows you to plant a memorial tree from cremated remains. Using 100% biodegradable materials, this combination of urn and memorial tree planting system allows you or a loved one to "live on" as a beautiful tree. The urn capsule includes growth medium, soil mixture, and a unique design that allows just the right amount of moisture to ensure proper, healthy growth of your memorial tree. A lower section holds the cremated ashes, incorporating the remains into the growth of the tree as it helps sustain and nourish the plant.
In short, the Bios Urn is a biodegradable urn, designed to turn the ashes of a person or pet into a tree. Thanks to its simplicity of design, the urn aids in the proper germination and growth of a tree using a person or pet’s cremated remains. In this unique way, death is seen as a transformation and an eco-friendly, sustainable gesture that honors life in nature.
The Bios Urn does not expire; so you can order your own memorial tree urn well in advance. Please note that the seeds we provide with the urn should be used within a season, so if you are arranging in advance we would direct you to the "I'll use my own seeds" option.

The Bios Urn is truly simple to use. The urn is constructed with two separate capsules: the top chamber is a sealed unit that ensures the viability of the seed until it begins to sprout; the lower chamber is where the ashes are placed.
All that needs to happen to prepare the urn for planting is 1) fill the lower cone of the urn with the remains; 2) mix some soil from wehre you want your tree to grow; 3) close the with the top capsule and 4) place the seed inside the capsule.
Before you bury the Bios Urn, you should to mix the components with some soil from where you want your tree to grow. Doing so will naturally facilitate germination of the seed when mixed with soil. Simply plant your urn where you want your tree to grow and take care of it. Always plant the entirety of the urn, which is completely biodegradable and will not harm the soil. You can plant your Bios Urn using a seed or a young sprout. The memorial tree urn should be planted about 1-2 inches below the top surface of the soil. Once planted, make sure the seed has the appropriate water and humidity levels. Care for your memorial tree just as you would any other tree.
The Bios Urn is designed to hold all of the cremated remains that result from the normal cremation process of an adult. You can fill the urn, or only use a small portion - it's up to you. The memorial tree will grow well in either instance.
