The Han Tomb Ceramic Cremation Urn is a uniquely designed urn based on a tomb model from the Chinese Eastern Han Dynasty. A model of a central watchtower constructed of earthenware clay, this funeral urn has two chambers, the lidded box forming the bottom floors and a lidded box that lifts out.

This handmade work is constructed of glazed earthenware clay, with an embellished surface boasting a complex variety of handbuilt and carved decorative elements indicating architectural features. A vast assortment of architectural models were placed in Han tombs for use in the afterlife. A work this elaborate would have symbolized the high status of the person buried in the tomb.
