The Whispering Maple Leaves Raku Ceramic Urn is a hand-made companion urn crafted by a ceramic artist using a lovely white crackle glaze which seals in light impressions from real maple leaves. This ceramic urn will hold 375 cubic inches of cremated remains, often used for two individuals and thus known as a companion urn, urn for two, or double urn.
In Raku firing each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of combustible materials such as straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface creating the unique, seemingly ancient, colors and textures of raku. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired ceramic urns are unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.
As these ceramic urns are generally made-to-order, please allow up to 3-8 weeks for your urn to be shipped. Often, we can finish and deliver sooner, but if you need the urn by a specific date please contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements. These are handmade urns, and as such shape and colors of each urn will vary. **Colors and finish will vary.**
The general rule to follow when figuring size is that 1 lb. healthy body weight equals 1 cubic inch of cremated remains; thus, a 180 lb. individual would need a 180 cubic inch funeral urn. For more help on urn sizing standards, see here.
