The Falling Leaves Maple Raku Companion Urn is a hand-thrown ceramic vessel, handmade in Washington State by a ceramic artist to hold the remains of two individuals. The maple leaves are carved and finished with your choice of contrasting glaze to highlight the "falling leaves" pattern, then fired in the traditional Japanese method of Raku ceramics.

In Raku firing each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface creating the unique, seemingly ancient, colors and textures of raku. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired companion urns are unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.

These ceramic double urns are generally made-to-order, please plan on several weeks for your urn to be handcrafted, fired, and shipped. Often, we can finish and deliver sooner, but if you need the urn by a specific date please contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements. These are handmade urns, and as such shape and colors of each urn will vary slightly.
