This companion cremation urn is hand thrown in the Raku fire process, resulting in a uniquely elegant memorial urn. A very popular ceramic urn, Raku is a traditionally an ancient Japanese firing process used in the production of stoneware. This double funeral urn, with its lush and shimmering glaze, will stand as a lasting tribute to a loving couple.

In Raku-style firing each piece of ceramic pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material  immediately bursts into flame and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface creating the unique, and seemingly ancient, coloring and texture of raku. Thus, each of our Raku-fired funeral urns are one of a kind and in the particulars of the design and coloration.

These companion urns are generally made-to-order, please allow time for production. Often, we can deliver sooner, but if you need the urn by a specific date please contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements.

This beautiful raku ceramic urn is Companion or Double Urn, which will hold up to 375 cubic inches of the cremains of two individuals. The general rule to follow when figuring size is that 1 lb. healthy body weight equals 1 cubic inch of cremated remains; thus, a 180 lb. individual would need a 180 cubic inch funeral urn.
