Raku Horsehair Fired Urn 424
This exceptional ceramic urn emerges from the time-honored tradition of raku smoke firing, where horsehair creates spontaneous, irreplaceable surface patterns that celebrate life's singular beauty. No two pieces are identical—each carbonized strand marks the clay with nature's own artistry, transforming a vessel into a personal tribute. The elegant brass and wangi bamboo-adorned lid elevates the design with refined sophistication, making this limited-edition creation as visually compelling as it is meaningful.
Whether holding a portion of an adult's remains or serving as a complete resting place for a child, this handcrafted urn honors memory through the marriage of ancient technique and contemporary artistry, turning remembrance into a lasting work of beauty.
From the Artist: "After firing and cleaning I coat the piece with bees wax or acrylic wax to protect the surface. Horsehair works intended for decorative or dry storage use (ashes). You can care for them as you would fine woodworking. Keep out of extended direct sunlight and DO NOT place water in these vessels as it will ruin the finish."
