Small Dome-Lidded Anagama Ceramic Urn

Handcrafted by a talented American ceramic artist, this one-of-a-kind cremation urn is distinguished by its dramatic, high-domed lid, which forms over half of the vessel's total height. Hand-thrown from textured stoneware clay, the jar was wood-fired continuously for six days inside an Anagama (a traditional subterranean tunnel kiln).

Prolonged exposure to intense chamber flames and melting wood ash created a rich, naturally glazed finish across the front face. The reverse side, sheltered from direct ash accumulation, reveals warm, earth-toned fire flashing left by the passing currents of flame. A natural jute cord threads through shoulder eyelets on the lid and ties securely beneath the recessed foot. With its 150 cubic inch interior volume, this urn is sized to hold a portion of an adult's cremains, or might hold the full cremains of a smaller adult. This also should be suitable for a child- or pet-sized urn. Please refer to our Urn Size Guide for detailed capacity recommendations for adults.

Placement & Filling Guidance:
You may need the help of a person who is facile and competent with their hands for this task. Patiently untie the cord underneath the jar while resting on a table. Leave the jute cord threaded through the holes so it doesn’t have to be threaded through again! Place the bag of cremains into the bottom of the jar and gently replace the lid. Next, hold both the lid and jar together upside down. Snug the cord through its trajectory and retie the bow knot underneath.

The urn in the picture will be the one you receive.
