Engraved Photo Urns
Our Engraved Photo Urns collection features a variety of cremation urns which are laser engraved, etched, or kiln-fired with a photograph of your loved one. Please contact us by phone (toll-free: 877-900-5309) or by email if you have questions about the personalization on our photo cremation urns or if you would like to make sure a particular photo will work.
Why engrave a photo onto an urn?
Unlike a photograph printed onto photo paper, a laser engraving will not fray or curl or lose clarity with age. The permanence of a photo engraved onto a cremation urn is the primary reason many people choose a photo urn - just like the memorial urn itself, the image of your loved one will endure for years to come.
What photos can be engraved?
We can engrave just about any photograph of decent quality. Of course, the higher the quality of the picture (larger resolution, professionally done, clarity, standard jpeg format, etc) the higher the quality our engraving of it will be.
Additionally, we can engrave just about any subject matter, as long as it is not under copyright protection. This means that we can etch photos of:
- Your loved one
- A family photo
- Clip art
- A photo taken by your loved one
- A nature scene
- Animals
- A favorite hobby
- A favorite car
- Drawings of or by your loved one
- Drawings by your children
Again, for best results, the image should be of the highest quality and resolution possible.
What types of images do you support?
JPEG (or JPG) is preferred. We can work with you to find a way to get your photo into the proper format. To upload a photo through our site onto the product page, we generally allow:
- JPEG (a pretty standard image format)
- PSD (Photoshop file)
- GIF (web format, generally not as good quality as JPEG)
- TIFF (or TIF, pixel based, preserves transparency)
We can also work with PDF, PNG, and occasional addtional formats. DOC or DOCX files from Microsoft Word and other word processors are not recommended; however, if that's what you have email it to us and we'll see if we can make it work.
What if I just have a printed photo?
You can take a print and scan it into your computer, then email the file to us (or upload it onto the engraved photo urn product page). If you do not have access to a scanner or email, you can generally take a printed photo into a print shop such as Staples, FedEx/Kinkos, WalMart, etc and have them scan it for you. Sometimes you can even arrange to have them email the photo to us - check with your local print shop to see what options are available.
What types of urns are available for photo engraving?
We offer a selection of wood urns and cultured granite urns which can be laser engraved with a photo. Additionally, our ceramic artist can fire (not laser engrave) a photograph onto the surface of a ceramic urn. This process gives the image an old-fashioned sepia tone and permanently affixes the picture onto the urn, sealing it beneath the final glaze.
