The Christian Symbol Raku Ceramic Cremation Urn is a beautifully designed and executed art funeral urn, hand thrown in the Raku firing process. Raku is a traditional ancient Japanese firing process used in the production of stoneware, and with the beautiful glaze finish and your choice of color scheme this ceramic urn is a beautiful memorial urn for your loved one.
In Raku firing each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame, and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen-starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface, creating the unique, seemingly ancient, colors and textures of raku. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired funeral urns is unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.
These ceramic urns are generally made-to-order, but if you need the urn by a specific date please contact us and we will make the necessary arrangements. These are handmade urns, and as such shape and colors of each urn will vary slightly. The Christian "fish" symbol, the Ichthys, is an ancient and popular symbol representing the Christian faith. The name "Ichthys" is an acronym of the first letters of the Greek for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."
