Handcrafted Butterfly Raku Ceramic Cremation Urn
The Butterfly Raku Urn is a beautiful handcrafted ceramic cremation urn, hand thrown in the Raku firing process. The butterfly image is a raised carving crafted by hand. Raku is a traditional ancient Japanese firing process used in the production of stoneware, and with the beautiful glaze finish and your choice of color scheme, this ceramic urn is an elegant memorial urn for your loved one.
In Raku firing each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of combustible materials such as straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame, and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking, oxygen-starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface, creating raku's unique, seemingly ancient colors and textures. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired urn vessels is unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.
