Handcrafted Hummingbird Raku Ceramic Cremation Urn
The Hummingbird Raku Ceramic Cremation Urn is a subtle yet classic memorial crafted by hand in the traditional Raku ceramics style. The hummingbird image is a raised carving completed individually and by hand. Raku is a traditional ancient Japanese firing process used in the production of stoneware, and with a lovely glaze finish and your choice of color scheme this ceramic urn is an elegant memorial urn for your loved one.
In Raku firing each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. Then it is placed in a bed of combustible materials such as straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material immediately bursts into flame, and the “reduction chamber” is sealed. The flame and the smoking oxygen-starved atmosphere transform the glaze surface, creating raku's unique, seemingly ancient colors and textures. Thus, each of our one-of-a-kind Raku-fired urn vessels are unique in the particulars of the design and glaze finish.
